What each agent does

The VAT, Accounts, MTD and Tax agents, and what each one produces.

What does the VAT Agent produce?

Boxes 1 to 9 for one VAT period, on the standard or flat rate scheme, with accrual (invoice) or cash accounting. It handles the domestic reverse charge, postponed import VAT, blocked input tax, partial exemption and the fuel scale charge. Boxes 6 to 9 are rounded to the nearest pound, with the exact pence beside them.

The pack holds a workbook with the workings, a CSV of the boxes, a one-page summary, the questions and answers, and a draft email for your client when they have questions to answer.

What does the Accounts Agent produce?

A trial balance, profit and loss account and balance sheet for a sole trader, partnership or company. For a company you choose FRS 105 or FRS 102 Section 1A. Year-end journals, such as depreciation and accruals, come to you as questions before anything posts.

For a company it also works out capital allowances, corporation tax and any S455 charge, with a CT600 box map.

How does an agent work through a job?

  1. Vedas checks each file you upload and sets aside anything that isn't a financial record for the job.
  2. The agent reads every file and records the lines and figures it finds. Code checks each record.
  3. It asks you about anything it isn't sure of.
  4. Code works out every figure from the lines, and builds the pack.

You can leave the page while it runs. The job page shows what the agent is doing, and the agent time so far.

Does a partner have to approve a client's settings?

No. A client's settings are asked once: when you add the client, when you create its first job, or on that job's Client info step before the upload. An accountant's answer is used at once, by that job and later ones. Partners and admins review it afterwards on the Memory screen. They mark it reviewed, or change it, and the client's open jobs run again with the change. Final jobs stay as they are.

A firm that wants approval first can turn it on in Settings, Firm. Then the job waits until a Partner or Admin approves the settings.

What is the Memory screen?

Memory holds what Vedas has learned about each client: their settings, and how their regular payees are coded. When you mark a job final, Vedas proposes payee codings from that job for later jobs. A Partner or Admin approves or declines them on the Memory screen.
